Cystic fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis is a common human mutation that is hereditary. This condition creates severe damage to the lungs, digestive system, and other organs in the body. Those with CF have inherited two copies of the defective gene, one from each parent. The parents may be carriers and not be affected, but if both parents are carriers, the child will most likely have CF. Those affected will experience poor growth, a poor immune system, malnutrition, and a chronic lung disease. Unfortunately there is no current cure for CF, but antibiotics have been created to make the disease more manageable. Because of their poor immune system, it is highly recommended those with CF stay at least 6-feet apart because of risk of ‘cross-infection’

  1. I enjoyed reading this article. Cystic fibrosis is a terrible disease that affects the lungs and knowing that there is no current cure is sad but it is good that certain antibiotics are available to manage it.

  2. I thought this was an interesting article and that is because I have a friend who has Cystic Fibrosis and I have seen first hand the stuff he has had to go through. It’s a terrible disease and he was in and out of the hospital and was not supposed to make it to 15. He is now 19 and goes everywhere with my friends and I whether it’s to the beach, or out to a party or even an event. I’m really proud to see the progress he has made with having this.
