Clock Gene Mutation Leads to “Night Owl” Behavior
Delayed sleep phase disorder is a problem with an person that tends to sleep during later hours of the night. This disorder is now being associated with the gene CRY1. Based on one of the patients family history and how other relatives have this gene and have the condition started to become more prevalent that this gene does contribute to sleep. Relatives of the original patient seemed to on average sleep 2 hours later than expected. The issue with this observation is that its only been investigated within one family. That same family could have other factors that effect sleeping disorders.

I have never heard of delayed sleep phase disorder and found it very interesting to learn about. I really hope further research is conducted on more people since in this study only the one family was observed. There could be so many more people effected by this but we wont know until more studies are done.
