Spinach to Heart?

I saw this this story on the news this morning and it seemed very interesting. Who would think using something as simple as spinach leaves would help patch up a heart. Although they are not completely sure it would work in a host, they have made it beat and have liquid running through the new veins. This also opens up more ideas for other natural foods and human cells.

  1. I just heard about this the other day as well! I am going to do more research on it myself because it sounds like a promising breakthrough. The fact alone that this can be done at all is amazing. But it's even crazier to think that it will be so cheap, compared to alternatives anyway. I can't think of anything cheaper than a spinach leaf. Hopefully the testing proves this to be useful for humans!

  2. Devan, I believe this could be an amazing breakthrough but I really do not see this realistically happening. Spinach and the heart differ so drastically, the experiment only deals with the passage of blood and fluid through the leaf, just the same as it would flow in any other canals. Neat post!

  3. Maybe the old Popeye cartoons were alluding to something! It is a very unique idea to compare spinach and the human heart. They do share those properties that may allow future generations to benefit, but to me it won't be in any of our lifetimes, but who knows! With the new technologies being created each and everyday this could be a lot closer to becoming a reality than anyone has thought!
