Genetics, Biomarkers, Inflammation and Cancer

Scientist from Uppsala University have discovered that genetics play a role in determining protein levels in the body which in turn are used as biomarkers to help identify diseases. Biomarkers are basically used to help diagnose specific diseases that an individual could be suffering from. 1000 healthy individuals were used in the study and by looking at their lifestyles and environments, scientist were able to find out that 75% of their prhttp://www.nature.com/ncomms/2014/140822/ncomms5684/full/ncomms5684.htmlotein levels were based on genetics and heredity. This discovery plus understanding how people live their lives has made it possible to use more biomarkers.

Although short, I thought this was a very interesting article simply because biomarkers which are “used for diagnosing diseases” would make people’s lives much simpler. Let’s say a person was diagnosed with a number of different diseases and received the wrong treatments. Theoretically we could say that biomarkers would have made identifying the disease easier and therefore the right treatments could be given. I found more on this article on this website
