Stem Cells from Deceased Patients Recreated
In a recent study, scientists have been able to give life to stem cells developed from patients who have died long ago, using their DNA from stored blood samples. These reanimated stem cells, called iPSCs have been restored into stem cells for the intestine from people who have developed inflammatory bowel disease. From these reanimated diseased cells, it would be possible to research causes of the disease and methods to treat it. Finding the biological mechanisms of these diseases is important to advances in medical technology, because they can compare the DNA of the diseased cells to those of a diseased patient to find similarities.
iPSCs are useful in all types of studies for diseases, and have been used before for research to accelerate aging in stem cells to study diseases of mental illness. Personally I think that research regarding stem cells is amazing and has a lot of potential. Studies like this always surprise me when scientists find something new and better every day.

Stem Cell recreation is always a fascinating subject, the fact that we can use a deceased persons blood and make the cells come alive is incredible. Im waiting to see how far stem cells can go
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy! Imagine where medicine will be in 10 years with all these new findings. Stem cells are used to in so many different areas of medicine and being able to produce functional stem cells from deceased patients is only a step in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteIt is fascinating that technology an advancement in science has allowed scientists to use stem cells come alive and be the exact same cells from the dead patients. I would also say that this will strike more controversy in the stem cells debates. I believe that they are moving in the right direction, since it's bests to have a comparison and match similar diseases to help find the exact location in the structure of the genetic make up that caused the symptoms and even death.
ReplyDeleteStem cell research has always fascinated me, from it's controversial nature to the science behind it. The fact that these researcher could take cells from a long deceased person and use them to better the live of those still with us, is an incredible discovery. The fact that the cells still work and respond to stimuli after all this time is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI find it extremely fascinating that blood from long deceased people can pretty much come alive again. Stem cell research is the key to finding cures to many illnesses and i cannot wait until it is more widely accepted so it can reach its full potential.
