Behavior Linked with Smoking?

We all know cigarettes are bad for you, but the real question is "how bad"? We all know that cigarettes damage our throats, lungs, and other parts of our body, but scientists are beginning to discover a new problem arising out of smoking. A recent study has shown that mother's who smoke cigarettes during their prenatal stage, are putting their children at greater risk for behavioral problems. Of course, this is usually linked with a genetic risk for behavioral problems, but they are now beginning to understand that the smoking of cigarettes increases their risk of the behavioral problem arising. This is very interesting news as it sheds light onto an already tattered reputation, but no one is complaining. In our current society smoking cigarettes is increasing being looked down upon, and more news like this puts cigarettes deeper and deeper into the hole they have dug themselves into. So, we already know the life threatening side-effects of smoking cigarettes presents, but now that more problems arising. So the question then becomes, "Will people continue to smoke cigarettes?" The answer to that question is YES! People are addicted to cigarettes and will continue to be regardless of the negative effects. So, if you see a mother-to-be walking down the street smoking a cigarette, make sure you warn her and tell her to read this article.

  1. Interesting to know that cigarette's play a role in adolensence behavior. Your statement is relevant on how people knowing the negative facts of smoking while pregnant will continue unfortunatly. Although, I am against smoking, it is truly a disease of addiction and hopefully society will realize this and offer more counseling on the effects of thier adolensence.

  2. Although I was already aware of the physical consequences of smoking while pregnant its very surprising that it could also affect a child's behaviors. The physical defects are obvious but to associate cigarettes to future behavioral problems is great in the sense that may influence more mothers to quit smoking. Yet it's also very alarming because many women will never see this information and continue with their ways. So although it may seem a bit dramatic to walk up to a strange pregnant woman who is smoking, it could be necessary because of the lack of communication between healthcare and the general population.

  3. I think that regardless of the informative risks and negative facts that are available to the adolescents, they will behave however they choose to. I think that smoking will always be a choice that they make mostly due to influence from whom they surround themselves with. I think that the best thing that one can do to promote no smoking, is to ensure that the adolescent is not pressured by peers, and to be a supportive guidance to them with aiding in their making healthy and good lifestyle choices.
