Aging Erodes Genetic Control, but That's Flexible

Biologist at Brown University have found that gene silencing in fruit flies decreases with age. This was enacted by suppressing the sir2 protein. This suppression of the protein decreases the speed at which gene silencing  decreases. The research team then applied methods which seemed to extend the life of the flies in other research. They then observed how this affected the silencing of genes. The hope is to be able to find a method which will work on humans to increase gene silencing.
