Natural News published an article on a study led by Gilles-Eric Seralini of the University of Caen in France. The study was on the longterm or life time effects of GMO corn on rats. The study is claimed to be the first and most thorough study to examine the effects of eating GMO foods. The researchers found that 50 percent of males and 70 percent of females fed the GMO corn died prematurely compared to only 30 percent and 20 percent in the control group that was not fed the GMO food. The rats fed the GMO food also grew large tumors and had organ damage starting as early as four months of age. Due to the results provided by this study the vice chairman of the European Parliament's commision for agriculture called for an immediate suspension of growing and importation of GMO crops. I personally agree that there should be a suspension on the sale of GMO food until further studies can be done, but this study proves to me that something in these genetically modified organisms is extremely harmfully to the health of anything that eats it. Genetically modified crops are designed to be more resistant to pest so I think it's possibly that whatever makes it more resistant may be what is so harmful when eaten.
