5 Disorders Share Genetic Risk Factors, Study Finds

A study conducted among 60,000 people worldwide has shown that schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, autism, major depression and ADHD all share some of the same genetic "glitches". The author claims this study to be the larges genetic study of psychiatric disorders to date. The researchers have discovered similar issues in the brain's signaling system. "They found a few unusual disruptions of chromosomes that were linked to psychiatric illnesses. But what surprised them was that while one person with the aberration might get one disorder, a relative with the same mutation got a different one."
