Depression in your genes.

A recent study has determined that a depression risk is linked to genetics. A gene has been identified that is linked to depression risk. Scientists took patients that were depressed and compared the genomes of each. They then compared them to genomes of people who have never been depressed. What they found was a gene called SLC6A15. This gene codes neuronal amino acid transporter protein. It has been confirmed in over 15,000 patients with major depression. Scientists are hoping to use this study to help with therapy and future treatments of depression.

  1. they should be able to make treatment better with these findings, as the scientists are hoping, because current treatments for major depression are indispensible but their clinical efficacy is still unsatisfactory, as reflected by high rates of treatment resistance and side effects.
