New Protein Identified in the Formation of Breast Cancer

Scientists have recently discovered a new protein, Kindlin-3, that may be linked to the formation of Breast Cancer.  According to this article Kindlin-3 is also linked to the spread of Breast Cancer to other organs in the body.  The scientists at Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute have just recently identified this protein and the role it plays in Breast Cancer.  Dr. Elzbieta Pluskota and her team of researchers studied which gene products were prominent in patients with Breast Cancer.  These elevated levels of genes would most likely be associated with the cancer that has infected the body. The team of scientist performed a study on animals where each group was injected with a different type of cancer cell.  The control group contained cancer cells that did not express Kindlin-3 while the experimental group had cancer cells that had high levels of Kindlin-3.  The results showed a larger tumor advancement in the experimental group than in the control group.   Other research has been conducted on the Kindlin-3 protein.  The research on this vital protein will enhance medicine that is used to treat Breast Cancer.

I believe that this research is going to change the lives of many women affected by breast cancer.   The newly discovered role Kindlin-3 plays in the development of cancer will help doctors everywhere create better medicine to treat and hopefully cure breast cancer.  Breast cancer affects so many women (and men also) across the country and so this research could truly help save lives.  The medical world is truly advancing to a point where hopefully no one ever has to hear the words "you have cancer".  The research is advancing so rapidly and I can only hope that the next generation of children will not have to worry about the risks of being diagnosed with cancer.
