Alzheimer’s Disease has been an increasingly relevant topic in modern genetics research as cured and treatments are further researched. The concurrent gain in traction related to this ailment has continued to carry momentum as a study had recently determined a major correlating-linkage between the APOE gene and the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease at predictable age ranges. The cited study reports that individuals of European descent (primary source of data in study) who are homozygous for the APOE4 gene makeup only approximately two percent of the “overall population” but present approximately fifteen percent of AD (Alzheimer’s Disease) cases.
In my opinion, this research is becoming increasingly significant and productive, and should be further pursued. Not only is it discovering correlative connections between genetic markers and variants with catastrophic ailments, but it improved our general understanding of the expression of mentally degenerative diseases as a whole. Ailments like Alzheimer’s Disease are potently destructive on human connections and vicious to the physical and emotional state of its victims, both direct and indirectly. Finding methods of prevention, alongside assistive or curative treatments is a major societal pursuit and should be continued enthusiastically.
