Viruses can steal our Genetic code to Create New Human-Virus Genes

With the topic of Coronavirus being brought everywhere in our everyday lives scientists began to pay more attention to other viruses and keep a close eye on them. According to researches at Emerging Pathogens Institute at Icahn School of Medicine and Mount Sinai in New York, along with research at the MRC- University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research in the UK. From doing this new research not only was a new protein found, but it also shows that when viruses take over the host or in other words our body. They can steal genetic signals coming from other genes to expand their own genomes. Specifically segmented negative-strand RNA viruses, when they steal the signals a multitude of UFO proteins are encoded. A UFO protein is also known as an Upstream Frankenstein Open reading frame protein. With this new knowledge scientists can now implement what they have learned to help stop the spread of viral diseases and pandemics.
