Endometrial Cancer risk factors

Endometrial cancer is cancer on the lining of the uterus. In the UK alone, it is known to be the fourth most commonly diagnosed types of cancers. Both the University of Cambridge and Oxford University went to investigate the DNA of 7,000 endometrial cancer patients, and compare their DNA to 37,000 of women who do not have endometrial cancer. From their studies, researchers have found 9 total regions in the DNA that are link to the disease. Interestingly enough 7 out of the 9 regions were already known to cause other types of cancers. Yet, only each factor may only increase the patients chances of being diagnosed increase by 10-15%.

  1. A 10-15% increase in cancer chance is pretty high. I feel as though that large percentage could change somebodies live very dramatically

  2. It is interesting to see how they found two more regions that increase the patients chances of being diagnosed with endometrial cancer. I wonder if they study a greater number of women with the cancer, they would find even more regions. This shows that there is always more genetic information that can be attained if we are able to study more and more peoples genomes.
