Food viruses or body viruses. Which should scare us more ?
The world population just edging over 7 billion people is creating an environment where agriculturally we are trying to keep up, creating farms in third world countries that don't necessarily meet FDA standards , and with this comes new viruses and diseases.
Ebola, Zika, Bird Flu. These viruses are the ones that make national news for a possibly
" world epidemic" , but there are other disease that aren't getting their fair share of the international spotlight, like a virus that has killed tilapia in record numbers since 2009 in places as far away apart as Ecuador and Israel found their bonds decimated by this "mystery virus" loosing mass amount of there fish population.
Tilapia is the 4th most eaten fish in the world. How can this virus not be international spotlight?
The scary part is that this virus genome is so unfamiliar that researchers can't even be sure what strain of virus it is. As we continue to grow as a human population , we will keep growing animals for food and we will continue to create perfect conditions for the emergence of diseases that we have never seen before. This sort of food- threatening disease should be a concern for the future.
