Using A Simple Baking Ingredient To Fight Brain Cancer

Who would have thought that something as simple as baker's yeast could help fight off brain cancer. Science Daily posted an article supporting the idea and discussing the new insights that experts have found. There is potential to fight diseases, such as Parkinson's using bakers yeast. Yeast cells live well in test tubes, which enable researchers to learn about complex human disorders. Using these proteins allows better understanding on the basic cellular level, yet it is elusive.  Studies show that researches can take advantage of the baker's yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae to gain knowledge on the cellular process that takes place in Parkinson's disease. The research team studied a family of proteins in the baker's yeast, which are related to the human protein gene known as DJ-1. Mutations in this gene is what causes the inherited forms of Parkinson's.
Science Daily posted a related article explaining the protein misfolding that distorts the proteins from their normal functions. New insights into mechanisms are being provided through this yeast that contribute to Parkinson's.These studies are crucial to our future and give us hope to develop cures and better treatments.

  1. I never knew something this simple could help fight brain cancer, I always thought it had to be something more serious or had more nutritional value to it.
