Americans Like Their Drinks 'Sickeningly Sweet' but New Labeling May Make a Difference

Cutting 450 calories per day would lead to about a 1 pound per week weight loss, close to 50 pounds in one year and reduction in sugar-sweetened beverages had a significant effect on weight change at 6 months and 18 months, even more of an impact than solid- calorie reduction".

Sometime when I look at a beverage and see "30-something" grams of sugar, I'll buy it as somewhat of a treat. It's funny that theres actually something like 80 grams in most of those drinks because they cut the serving size by "2.5." Maybe I could try to drink the proper serving and leave exactly 1.5 servings left. But I doubt it.
ReplyDeleteIt's also interesting because sugary, caffeinated drinks actually dehydrate the person drinking them.
ReplyDeleteAlso, 22.5 teaspoons of sugar daily is a lot, especially when considering that sugar doesn't even have an exact daily recommended value on the official food pyramid (http://www.cuisinecuisine.com/images/pyramid2.jpg).
I wish more people could cut out soda from their daily routine. Since I stopped drinking soda, I have been more energetic, lost a significant amount of weight without exercise, and just feel healthier in general. I'm going to start looking into cutting out other types of sugary foods from my diet.
