Columbine Flower's Diversity and Rapid Speciation

The Columbine Flower, in the last three million years, has undergone rapid speciation.  Science Daily and Harvard University attribute columbine's burst of radiation into seventy species to a number of complex variables yet simple to understand events. For years prior, the standard belief was Columbine Flowers or “Aquilegia” gained their long spurs through cell proliferation. However, it has been discovered this understanding is false. Ninety nine percent of variation found in the species has now been attributed to elongation of round cells. This incredible discovery opens doors into and provides a model organism for understanding the genetics regarding speciation.
