An apple a day keeps the doctors away!
Such a simple saying, but it speaks the truth! We've always been told to eat our fruits and vegetables because they are our main source of vitamins and minerals. But what we haven't been told until recently is that they can help change the effect of genes on heart disease! According to this article, researchers at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre have done studies on gene 9p21 that increases the risk of heart disease. They've noticed that those who carry the genotype that increases the risk of heart diseases and ate an abundance of fruits and vegetables in their diet actually decreased their risk. Their risk of heart diseases was as low as those who carry the gene for a low risk of heart disease. This finding may help scientists find a link between the mechanism of the gene on our body. With that finding, hopefully ours scientists will be able to find cures for heart diseases. Now, before you go grab a bag of chips or cookies to snack on, considering swapping that with more fruits and vegetables to help keep you from visiting your doctor.

This might explain why certain food distributors are going in the direction of fruit and vegetable chips and other snacks. Many countries view us as wasteful and unhealthy eaters (the fast food county). Companies like Wawa are doing there part to keep healthy snacks, such as fruit and vegetable cups, as popular as a bag of chips.
