Is maternal instinct real or is it something we have just normalized over time because of the great mothers out there? In a New York Times article by Julie Lythcott-Haims, she talks about a book called "MOM GENES Inside the New Science of Our Ancient Maternal Instinct" by Abigail Tucker. Throughout this book, Abigail is a young mother looking fr scientific evidence that females possess the maternal instinct for the children. After meeting with scientists and people working in their laboratories it is proven that maternal instinct is not a real thing. As the book goes on Abigail Tucker goes through struggles and depression. She dives back into science hoping to find answers even after her doctor has failed her but; again she was discouraged that. there were no answers for yet another question. Abigails mother becomes hr rock and her family helps lift her up. Alhough "maternal instinct" can not be proven it is seen that succeeding mothers and people close to home always have the aswers we are looking for.
