A fish known as a sea robin has crab-like legs, and it's able to taste with them. Most sea robins only use their legs for walking, but an ancient gene has been discovered, and sea robin legs have started developing taste buds on them. Previous studies have even suggested that some sea robins can even pick up chemical cues on the seafloor. Both genes that allow for sea robins to have limbs with taste buds are t1r3 (taste buds) and tbx3a (limbs). Their legs also help the sea robins detect when they've found something that they should avoid.
Seeing a fish with legs is obviously not a normal thing to see; however, after reading this article, I realized how beneficial it can be for fish to have limbs. It's resourceful for many different reasons, whether it's for detecting dangers or just simply finding food to eat.
