A New Medication- Aids in Bone Strengthening With Those With Diabetes:
A compound which is called 2,4,6-trinitrophenol or TNP has been shown to strengthen bones in individuals who have diabetes. In a study researchers have been using this drug originally in mice to "reverse diabetes and obesity." With the study going on, they have also found other data which shows that this drug can promote new bone formation. Usually diabetes drugs can make their bones weaker, and that is not a good thing. We need our bones, without them then we wouldn't have the structure and ability to do pretty much anything. The research shows one group of mice received the TNP drug and the other group of mice received the placebo which is crucial in any trial. The group of mice that received treatment were shown to have more bone cells develop, overall better bone area, and lastly fewer fat cells. It was then the opposite with the group that was given placebo.
People who have Diabetes are at higher risk to get osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease that causes the bones in your body to become thin and more susceptible to breaking. If this study continues and they can get out of mice trials and into humans, I hope it all works out and goes good from here. With how the mice are responding, it looks promising for humans. This drug can have such a huge and great impact on people who are suffering from this chronic disease.
