Genetic Markers of Substance Disorders

Scientists have combed through the genomic data of over one million people and believe they have identified the genes commonly inherited in people with addictions. The study used genome wide association, which searches the entire genome for single-nucleotide polymorphisms that are common among people with the same condition or disorder. Using genomics scientists are hoping to create a “data pipeline” that can be used to help develop treatments, and further our understanding of addiction.
