Researchers from King’s College London revealed that
genes have an influence on almost three quarters of immune traits. This
revealed that genes have an influence on our immune system. The researched
analyzed about 23,000 genes in 497 adult female twins. They exposed their
immune system to difference viruses and pathogens. Adaptive immune traits were
found to have a complex responses to these pathogens which were influenced by
their genes. The researchers also highlighted that environmental factors play
an important role in immunity. These influences can include our diet and where
we live.\
This
finding is interesting and will help researchers understand how our immune
system works and interacts with other factors. This could help scientists develop
new treatments for diseases. Two diseases that will benefit from this finding
for possible treatments to be developed are rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis.
This shows that are immune systems act in a individualized way to infections
and can lead to future personalized therapies. I feel that this will create opportunities
to develop new treatments for specific disease and viruses.

I had no idea that 75% of our immune system was influenced by our genes! I agree, being able to pinpoint the genes that cause immune disorders is extremely beneficial towards the future of personalized medication and treatment therapies.
