Sulforaphane May Be Linked to the Prevention of Prostate Cancer

A compound found in broccoli, sulforaphane, has been linked to prostate cancer as a compound that helps prevent the illness. The compound influence is found on long, non-coding RNAs. This establishment was made from researchers at Oregon State University. They published their findings in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry. With this discovery, it will provide an opportunity to make new discoveries in the genetics of cancer development. Researchers have found that IncRNAs may play a critical role in how cells become malignant and spread throughout the body. These IncRNAs play a key role in development of cells and how these cells are expressed. Researchers believe that these cells can contribute too many diseases, including prostate cancer, when these cells are irregular. This new discovery may help control the progression of these cells.
            The new discovery has shown that using sulforaphane may help decrease the upregulation of one IncRNA that is linked to prostate cancer. This compound can help normalize the levels of IncRNA. With an increase levels of eating broccoli, it can help reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer. This can also be linked to other cancers in the brain, lung, and colon cancer.
            With these findings, I feel that new methods can be developed to help prevent different cancers. This is an interesting discovery and can provide new methods to detect different cancers. Also, new treatments can be developed to treat this disease.

  1. This is really cool. I think that it is so compelling that if certain foods are ingested, we can actually prevent our bodies from getting horrible diseases and cancers. I hope that some day we can use this kind of research in order to create drugs that can have less severe symptoms compared to certain drugs that are on the market today.
