Monkeys were used as a test subject to study the autism- like behavior in humans.  due to the close relation between monkeys and humans. they were found to be a more effective model than mice because of the time it takes for the brain to fully mature. in mice, the brain is simple and matures very rapidly which does not give the researchers enough time to study the brain. however in monkeys, the slow brain maturation rate gives the researchers enough time to fully examine and understand the way the autism-like disorder effects them. although the monkeys were expressing an abnormal number of the MECP2 gene than codes for the disorder. they did not exhibit all forms of autism or autism-like behaviors. however the monkeys did not act normal like the unaffected monkeys. this process is costly, however it could unlock knowledge about the genetic disorder.

The ability to genetically alter animals to show human-like disorders, shows great promises in the medical field. although its morally wrong to test on animal, the monkeys are only experiencing a minor effect to them, and in some cases they rare not expressing the disorder at all.
