Scientist recently discover a gene signature that can hopefully aid doctors with advanced diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease. This gene signature will use the patients' age in terms of genetic condition or "underlying biological age." With this method they are hoping to identify Alzheimer's well before the disease on set.
Any contributions to early detection for the disease, I think, would truly help those who are diagnosed with Alzheimer's and their families. Be able to genetically identify a gene signature and use quantitative measurements to re-enforce a study is going to help many people.

The fact that there was a correlation found between a patient's biological age and Alzheimer's is amazing. Hopefully this breakthrough propels geneticist to look further into diseases such as this one, and that this breakthrough will be the key to the cure for Alzheimer's in the future. Of course, taking care of yourself contributes to your biological age, but this goes to show how especially important it is to preserve your health.
ReplyDeleteI read about this breakthrough and found it fascinating. Hopefully with this new information patients will be diagnosed earlier and have longer life expectancy. I believe that with all the studies being done on this mind-boggling disease, a drop in Alzheimer diagnoses may be seen in the future.
