Could it be possible that we are coming to a post antibiotic era? Within the past couple years there have been multiple break outs around the world of a common bacteria which was resistant to all forms of antibiotics. There are two different forms of the resistant bacteria but seem to both share common characteristics. The names of the two resistant bacterias are KPC and NDM-1. The effects of the resistant bacteria have been seem in cities of the US such as New York and Los Angeles. As of now Carbapenems, a bacterial infection treatment, is our only option against the resistant bacteria but scientists are becoming weary of the thought that this may not work for long. Researchers have found that as more antibiotics are used the easier it will become for current bacteria to develop the genes necessary for them to become resistant.
