Africa's Tallest Animal is Going Extinct.

Giraffes are the worlds tallest animals in the world. Unfortunately, because of poaching their population is becoming less and less. According to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation the giraffe population went down 40% in the last 15 years. Giraffes have nine different races and it is believed that some of them will be extinct very soon. It is a shock to everyone because it has only been recently noticed that the giraffe population has been going down. Hunters use their skin for clothing and to sell for trophies. Now that this issue has come to the surface hopefully this can be stopped and the population will rise bak to normal.

I Really hope this issue becomes resolved because giraffes happen to be my favorite animal and think they are so sweet and keep to themselves. I think poachers need to be stopped and the animal life foundation needs to do a better job on protecting these animals.

  1. I knew the number of giraffe is decreasing but I didn't know that it was 40% from the last 15 years. I hope the killing of this animal to stop because animals are going extinct at a fast rate which could cause a mass extinction. This was a good read.

  2. I had no idea about the decreasing giraffe population; it should be more widely known by now if some races of giraffe are predicted to become extinct. The use of their skin is definitely inhumane, and it is something that can be easily controlled. I hope that people will become more aware of this in the near future.

  3. This is very astonishing because I had no idea giraffes were even on the endangered list of animals. It's one thing for them to be struggles due to natural selection, it's another if it is due to human influences. It is our obligation to at least try to mitigate the losses. When you say that giraffes have 9 different races, do you mean species?

  4. I actually didn't know that the giraffe population was decreasing. I feel like it's a topic not talk about much. Word should be better spread to raise awareness. I'd actually like to know more about the efforts that the Giraffe Conservation Foundation is doing to help the population.

  5. I've been fascinated by conservation for a while and I love learning about it, but I've never heard of this. It's saddening to know because out of all the animals that are endangered, giraffes are my favorite and entirely worth saving. I hope that their numbers will go back up again with the public getting to know more information about it.
