Prosecutors look to new DNA testing in twin cases

When it comes to identical twins and forensic cases, it is usually not a lack of evidence that makes the case inconclusive but the fact that the suspect shares the same DNA as another individual. This was the case during a rape case trial in Boston. Due to the fact that twins come from a single fertilized egg, standard DNA testing is unable to distinguish between the two people. After many years of dealing with these difficulties, a new test is believed to have been developed. Jake Wark, a spokesman for Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley says " the science behind this testing has been used in research, in paternity tests and in a variety of other capacities." Although the details of the new test are not mentioned I feel it may be promising if it is determined to be accurate in determining the difference between the two twins. Hundreds of cases across the globe go unsolved due to this dilemma and hopefully this study is a step in the right direction towards accurately solving the who done it in a crime.
