Extending our lifespan

On April 2, 2014, BBC News published an article called “ Dieting monkeys offer hope for long life.” Scientists believed that extreme calorie counting boosts lifespan in monkeys. Advocates of the Calorie Restriction diet claim that by severely restricting the number of calories they consume they will live longer, perhaps into their hundreds. Dr. Rozalyn Anderson of the department of medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison said “CR works to delay ageing in primate species.” The scientists discovered that calorie restriction boosted survival in a group of rhesus monkeys studied over the course of decades. There are studies investigating if healthy humans live longer on less food. The participants restrict calories by 25% over several years. They will be on a vegetables, fruits, and soups diet. Calorie restriction is also explained in an article called "Fight Aging." This article was very interesting. I am interested in finding out the results of the studies in humans. This can benefit expand a person's life.

  1. This article is very interesting! I wonder if the people in the human study have mixed lifestyles such as an athlete vs. an office worker.
