I think that this article shows some more promising progress towards the detection and understanding of cancer. However, I think that any excitement about this news alone needs to be suppressed for now despite the overall progress in the fight against cancer. It seems like a small step in cancer detection and is likely only a stepping stone until a prevention or a "cure" is found down the road.

Skin cancer: Genetic mutations 'warn of risk'

It is nice to see that there are studies or articles out there proving that there is other reasons for skin cancer. Most people are oblivious or ignorant to the subject and automatically blame the sunlight or fake tanning. They are just factors to the cancer, but mutation in the gene could be the number one leading cause in the future. Being a young female, having a nice tan always feels good. Knowing whether I have the mutation or not to make me more likely for skin cancer would be good to know. I'm sure it is quite expensive to go through that process of finding out for ones own self.
