A good large portion of America enjoys a cup of coffee whether it be in the morning, afternoon, evening, or late night. Some people think coffee is good for health and some think it is bad for health, but what is the real effect of coffee?
A study was done by Italian researchers where it has been shown that liver cancer is reduced by 40% from drinking coffee, and if three cups or more are drank each day then the risk is reduced down by more than 50%. Liver cancer is a deadly disease. CDC stated that it is in the list of the leading top ten causes of death caused by cancers and cancer deaths, third and ninth, respectively. Men love coffee but women love it more (just like chocolates) which is ironic due to the fact that HCC, a certain type of liver cancer, is more likely to effect males. These results were double checked and published in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. So with this knowledge, those who enjoy drinking coffee now know it is not primarily for their taste buds or to wake themselves up. Instead it is for their protection against diseases. Liver cancer risk being reduced is one of them, or at least is being tested to be. The others are womb cancer, prostate cancer; Greek coffee is helping to increase the longevity of one's life.

Another study was done were coffee increased the risk of death in people, mainly those under 55 years old. Of the Americans who enjoy a cup or more of coffee may also be treating themselves to a low-risk lifestyle from the previously named diseases, but the second study that confirms this assumption should be in moderation.
I don't think there's much (if anything) to be gleaned from the second article. Coffee consumption that high implies to me that the person either has problems with substance abuse (drug, alcohol, etc.) or has sleep deprivation issues (due to the caffeine or predating it). I do, however, recognize that the science around caffeine and coffee in particular is still relatively vague and unkown, so there could be some merit to both.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joe that the coffee consumption that high must be associated with something else. Perhaps the sleep issues from drinking all of the coffee is what is making the person die at an earlier age? There are benefits and consequences to everything you are ingesting into your body and as always, too much of one thing can harm you.
