Less Cells More Life

Decades ago scientists uncovered that cells undergo a certain amount of divions before they stop dividing. When these cells stop dividing they reach a state of limbo where they prodcues factors that injury adjacent cell and cause inflammation. The immune system gets rid of these cells but over time the cleaning become less effective. As we age the more of the cells will accumulate. It has been very hard to see the effects of these cells becase elderly people still only have about 10-15% in their bodies. It is known however that do damage the body.
In an experiment, genetically engineered mice were created so that their senescent cells contained a molecule called caspase 8. When exposed to a drug molecule activated and drilled holes into the cell membrane of these cells and effective killed them, with no effect to normal cells. There findings included a delayed onset of muscle loss, cataracts, and other age related disorders in the mice when exposed to the drug periodically. The drug also halted already exposed age related diseases when given to the mice. This may be a major stepping stone in mans path to immortality.
