A study found that how well a person operates in a social group may be due to genetic factors, as well as common cultural ties. 1000 pairs of adult twins were assessed on how loyal they were to the group, on how flexible they were in adapting to a group, and how important it was for them that peoplein their group share their religion, ethnicity or race. They found that non-idential twins, who do not share all of their genes, were more likely to give different answers than identical twins, who do share all of their genes. Some environmental influences, such as ethnicity and religious affiliation, were also predictive of how well a person fits in with a social group.
I believe that this is a phenomenon that is difficult to study, because even though non-identical twins do not share all of their genes, they most likely grew up together and have faces many of the same environmental influences.
