Rare Discovery of Plant Genus
In this article, two new species of Yasunia were found in Equador and Peru. The first sample was collected in 1993 in Equador. The sample was unidentified due to the a "lack of detail," mostly from the flower. Trying to compare the sample to plants in the area, it failed to fit the genera of Lauraceae. The second of this sample was found in Peru in 2003. It was shown to be different from the Equador sample. The DNA of both species can result in a new classification of the plant family. It is a rare case where two new species are found and belong in a new plant genus.
