Tomatoes with enhanced antioxidant properties

Tomatoes contains a large amount of lycopene, an antioxidant that is highly effective in scavenging cancer-causing free radicals. A single tomato can provide about 40% of the daily vitamin C requirement. Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant which prevents against cancer-causing free radicals from damaging the body’s systems.Vitamin E and vitamin C provide critical antioxidant support in the cardiovascular system, and they are an important part of the contribution made by tomatoes to the heart. Studies have shown that certain isomers of vitamin E serve as a protective antioxidant that fights cholesterol oxidation.  This is because they can fight free radical damage in the body, which leads to cholesterol oxidation.New research has identified a new strategy to simultaneously enhance health-promoting vitamin E by ~6-fold and double both provitamin A and lycopene contents in tomatoes, to significantly boost antioxidant properties.Dr Wang Mingfu stated that extracts with enriched phytosterols, vitamin E and carotenoids can be used in the production of anti-aging cream and sun-care lotion.

This article was every interesting because research work like, could improve anti-aging creams all over the world. Tomato is already a great source of anti-inflammatory on the skin when irritated. Enhancing the vitamins in tomato could provide faster results to relief pain. We would get healthier components in food crops that would provide added-value to fruits and vegetables in the human diet, as well as enrich feed for livestock and aquaculture. Not to mention, better anti-aging creams for the future.
