An App Store for Genetics? A Startup's New Idea

Imagine having your own "app store" for DNA analysis and testing right at your finger tips. Lydia Ramsey from Business Insider wrote an article explaining how this could soon become a reality.  A startup called National Geographic's Geno 2.0 recently began offering various genetic tests using the startup Helix's new platform. This consists of about 20 different genetic tests that can explore everything in DNA from your ancestry to your own health.
This "app store" could revolutionize the way we do genetic testing. It takes out the redundancy in testing. Usually, when DNA analysis takes place, the costumer wanting to do multiple genetic tests has to do separate samples (usually spit) per test they want done. This technology allows the costumer to instead just do one test, have their DNA sequenced, then allow access to their unique genetic sequence in this "app store" so many tests can be done from one single sample. This will make tests easier to do and even more cost effective since multiple tests aren't being performed. Overall, this app could become the "one stop shop" for genetic testing and make this more convenient and available to more people.

  1. This is really interesting and seems like a more cost effective and convenient way to handle genetic testing. It would make it more affordable and accessible for the general public, which would allow more people to learn about their inherited traits and illnesses.
